2008 Municipal Elections in Kelowna

Today Kelowna had 'Local Government Elections' and I was happy to see that the Kelowna residents were quite involved in this election Process. Many of my friends were excited to cast their votes. They wanted to make sure that the right candidates are elected.

In B.C. general local elections are held every three years and in Kelowna these include the election of a Mayor and eight Councillors to City Council, and the election of four School Trustees to the Board of School District No. 23. Another interesting point was that for the first time, some electors in the Kelowna area were able to cast their ballot by sending it through the mail, provided they met some criteria.

According to Chief election Officer, Stephen Fleming:

The City of Kelowna Election bylaw has been amended to reflect new provincial legislation for local governments by including an option for mail ballot voting.

Since the vote counting is done electronically, the vote tally can be calculated within minutes of the final voter casting his or her ballot. If you haven't cast your vote yet, then hurry because the polls will close at 8.00 pm. Let's wait and watch and see who wins.
