A glimpse of Vernon

vernon_bc.jpgJust a few minutes drive to the north of Kelowna will lead you to a lovely little town of Vernon which was incorporated in 1892. Vernon is a typical Okanagan Valley town surrounded by spectacular golf courses, wineries, orchards and mountains. Kalmalka and Swan lakes add to the beauty of the town.

Downtown Vernon boasts clubs, pubs, galleries, local museums, fine restaurants, traditional shopping and theatre. Art lovers would be impressed to know that one of the largest outdoor public art galleries in Canada is located in Vernon and has twenty seven amazing murals depicting history, culture, scenery and folklore that shaped today's Vernon. Tourists are attracted to Vernon from all over the country during winter because of the 'Silver Star ski resort ' which offers excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding besides snowmobiling and dogsledding. Summer activities include lot of water sports (like boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming), hiking, cycling , rock climbing and golfing.

During my first visit to the town few months ago, I was impressed by old styled graceful homes, rich farmland and large shady trees. Vernon is a perfect destination for those looking for a laid back and relaxing life.
