A tribute to my Hair Dresser

footer.jpg
When it comes to fashion and style, Kelowna is no less than any other medium sized city. There are many salon and spas in the city which can help you get that polished look and great hairstyle. However, my all time favourite is Mod Salon. It is located on 2656 Gordon Drive, right in the heart of mission district of Kelowna. The owner of Mod Salon, Amy Bates has been voted as the best hairstylist in the Okanagan by the readers of Okanagan Life.

The best thing I like about Amy as a hairdresser is exceptional customer service and great personal attention that she gives to her clients. She offers services like Women's and Men's haircut, Colour, Permanent Straightening, Hi-lites, Scalp massage treatments, upstyles etc and all services are reasonably priced and start from $30. Amy who is a graduate from Marvel School of Hair and esthetics in Kelowna believes in cutting edge hair care and styling so she travelled to Britain last year to update her knowledge and studied in London and Manchester with Tony and Guy and Redken. So, if you are bored with your look and are looking for something exciting, call: 250-712-0009 or contact amy@modsalon.ca.

Now, Amy can get really busy sometimes so other good places to check out include:

Amy from Mod salon was my hairdresser for close to a year. Being new to Kelowna, I found her through an online search via Google, and I guess she won the Best Hairdresser Award a couple of years back. Sad to say, I WILL NOT spend another dime or any of my time at her salon, as I personally witnessed Amy and other stylists talk badly of their clients, had her dog sit on my lap (the woman next to me told me she was allergic!!!) as my hair was drying under a dryer, and was very limited to colouring options as she will only use Redken in her salon. I have a sister who is a well accomplished stylist with her own salon (unfortunately in Vancouver), so I 'm "up" a bit on Colour etc. I have NOT had my hair cut or coloured since walking out of Mod Salon 4 months ago - and with total truthfullness, LOVE my hair NOW as opposed to when I walk out of her Salon. (That awful brown has almost totally faded/washed out) She continually coloured me this bland brown, then "ooed" and "awed" and asked me if I "Totally loved it". I would try desperately to see what she saw.... but 1 year later and $1200 later, I see that she really isn't as good as SHE thinks she is, or convinces others she is. One time I actually called her the next day, after I had gotten home, heard my husbands comments, seen my hair in natural daylight... and the GRIEF I got from her, I actually told her I should probably find someone more in tune with my tastes. What ever happened to the customer being right? Very disappointing, because I BELIEVE that at one time she probably WAS very good. Trust me ladies, listen to that inner voice that says "ummmm..... I DON'T love it, and for the $200 I'm spending today - I SHOULD!" So in a nutshell... In my opinion, she needs to relearn listening to her clients wants, she needs to expand her colour line, and she needs to be able to take constructive critisism. Also, it seemed like every time I walked in there - I was charged a "new" price for my cut and colour.... very disturbing.
