Kelowna's Rails with Trails

Rails%20with%20Trails%20image.jpg

I am happy that Kelowna has finally taken its first step towards becoming greener and smoke free. BC's Community Services Minister Ida Chong and Mayor Sharon Shepherd have officially opened the much-anticipated Rails with Trails project, a multi-use off-road pathway adjacent to the Kelowna Pacific Railway.

The 1.8 kilometre pathway extends from Gordon Drive to Spall Road providing a wide, paved pathway suitable for cyclists, pedestrians and anyone using non-motorized transport. Rails with Trails project's intended use was consistent with the City's goals of providing alternate modes of transportation, promoting active living, reducing harmful emissions and providing sustainable transportation networks. The project was officially started in October of 2007 .

Rails with Trails safe crossing locations can be accessed at Gordon Drive, Cerise Drive and Spall Road.
Isn't it great to have a safe and scenic pathway for walking, in-line skating, commuter and recreational cycling, wheelchairs, scooters and baby strollers ?
