Last night I attended the Vernon Performing Art Center to see the performance described above (Trap Door Party), along with two friends who, like me, are patrons of many types of arts/entertainment. While ballet is not high on my priority list, the ticket was part of the Kelowna series.
The first sequence was OK. I thought the dancers showed grace, flexibility and strenghth. The music was tolerable. When the chubby dancer started doing her erotic part with a rather non-involved partner I stopped applauding. After the first 15 minutes I found it quite repetitive. However, not nearly so repetitive as the post-intermission sequencs. Not only was the music unpleasant and grating, it did nothing to enhance the dancers moves. Several of the sequences were very choppy and reminded me what a ballet warm-up might be like.
I am very sorry to say that I left the performance early with my visual and, auditory senses very disturbed and my soul in need of uplifting.
I am sorry that the dancers worked very hard to memorize endless technically difficult choreography and routines, yet no pleasure could be derived from viewing this production.
