Oasis in the desert - Osoyoos, BC

osoyoos.jpg

Last year, I had a chance to visit Osoyoos for the first time as I was invited to a wedding of a friend. Osoyoos is often known as the 'Desert Wine Country' and is the only desert of Canada with very little rainfall and high temperatures. Osoyoos produces some of the finest wine and also boasts warmest fresh water lake of Canada. Located in the Southern part of Okanagan, this region has a population of only about 5000 and borders the Washington state of U.S.A. Incorporated in 1946, Osoyoos is mainly sustained by tourism and agriculture.

Popular summer activities include: Windsurfing, Swimming, Mountain Biking, Fishing, Boating, Water-skiing, Golfing, Hiking and Parasailing Sailing. Osoyoos also offers some fantastic Camping sites. Main attractions of the town include: Wine tours, Desert Sites, Osoyoos Museum, Pioneer Walkway ( Waterfront Park), Haynes point provincial park and Rattlesnack Canyon family Park.

You can also choose to enjoy fresh local fruit like cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, pears by the white sandy beach of Osoyoos Lake.
