The Kelowna transit system has been my saving grace on many occasions. I have spent a lot of time on Kelowna buses. As a car-less Kelowna resident, I rely on Kelowna buses to get me to work when my schedule doesn't match my husband's work hours. I also take advantage of the transit system to go to the shopping mall, to meet friends, and to go where ever else in the city I need to go. The buses are not only my mode of transportation but helps me meet fellow residents, gives me a chance to plan my day ahead, do much of my reading, see the city closely and discover the patterns of life. Sometimes while riding a bus, I feel as if I am watching a reality TV show-with cast and characters from different walks of life: young and old, students and teachers, moms and daughters, friends and lovers, black and white, all sitting together with the single purpose of reaching their destination.
I have come to like city buses after travelling in them for quite sometime. One of my friends who is from Vancouver finds Kelowna transit way too slow compared to what she is used to. She has been used to buses coming along her way every fifteen minutes and here she thinks they are not as convenient. She hates waiting for them for long periods of time and complains she cannot reach any where on time.
However, I feel riding a bus is a nice way of discovering Okanagon's true beauty. All nooks and corners of the region are easily accessible by Regional transit and it costs only a couple of bucks. So, if you are not too busy and want to explore the city, pick a bus route map and hop on the bus.

I believe that one should be able to get to the major sites like school, work and not only shopping if you live in an area that is getting some kind of bus service. I live in close to UBC-O but due to the one way bus service off Old Vernon Road that's only objective seems to be to get to the mall and not to the college, location means little. I think that if you don't want the scenic tour of Kelowna the transit system in Kelowna is the worst in the western provinces. Even the new 97 express fails to fulfill the promise of its name. (I have only seen it on Rutland). Kelowna could be much better served with a more simple, efficient, effective grid type system. I would love to be able to take the bus and save on gas, parking, money and avoid having to drive in traffic. Get rid Queensway as a stop gap and get straight routes and I would enjoy the option of taking a public city transit. Instead what we have is "you can't get there from here".
