Welcome to Kelowna Part 2

It was a cold winter evening of November’2005 when I boarded a Horizon airlines aircraft flying from Vancouver to Kelowna. I remember very well that just before the aircraft landed, the flight attendant announced that the outside temperature is 2C and that made me aware about cold winters of Kelowna. The temperature dips down to as low as -15C in December but on an average remains about -2C. The summer temperature varies from 27C to 37C and can go up to 40 degrees some days.

May to October are considered ideal months for tourists although skiing in Big White makes it a popular ski destination during the winter season. The tourism industry flourishes during the summer months. Although Kelowna stays green for the most part of the year, it does snow during the months of November-February.

Kelowna has an international airport which receives domestic flights from all major cities of Canada, especially Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton and International flights from U.S.A mainly Seattle. Airlines servicing Kelowna include West Jet, Regional 1, Central Mountain Air, Air Canada Jazz, Harmony Airways and Horizon air. Although Vancouver is only a 3- 4 hour drive by car, many people prefer airlines and therefore flights to and from Vancouver are the most common ones at the Kelowna Airport. Kelowna is only about 5 hours drive from Seattle and Spokane. Kelowna also has a bus terminal (Greyhound) which services its residents with frequent trips to other cities throughout Canada.
